Lake Worth Golf Club

History

The Lake Worth Golf Club is located in the City of Lake Worth in Palm Beach County. In 1923, the City of Lake Worth approved a proposition to build a golf course along the City’s lakefront.  The golf course architectural firm of Langford and Moreau was hired to design an 18-hole golf course.  Plans included dredging the bottom of Lake Worth to fill in a considerable portion along the lake front.  A year later, a permit to fill part of the lakefront was received from the U.S. War Department for the construction of the golf course.

Designed under the supervision of William Langford, the nine holes of the golf course officially opened on November 11, 1926 at a cost of the $400,000.  The keys of the clubhouse were presented by Lake Worth’s Mayor to Cameron Trent, the golf professional.

In 1948, the completed 18-hole golf course was opened for play after golf course architect Dick Wilson redesigned the original holes and added nine more.

Today

The Lake Worth Golf Club includes an 18-hole, par-70 golf course featuring four sets of tees playing from 4,200 to 6,100 yards.  The course is comprised of a unique old Florida design along 1.2 miles of the Intracoastal Waterway.

Local Knowledge

A 1927 newspaper report claimed that “golfers will soon replace boats,” in recognition that almost all of the golf course land was once at the bottom of Lake Worth.

Palm Beach Par 3 Golf Course - Located directly across the lake from the Lake Worth Golf Club is the Palm Beach Par 3 golf course.  Bordered by Lake Worth on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, the course was originally designed by Dick Wilson and Joe Lee in 1961. The Par 3 was recently renovated and redesigned in 2009 by Hall of Fame golfer Raymond Floyd.  It has been touted twice by Golf Digest as "The Best Par 3 in the U.S." Golf Magazine has also bestowed its Number One Rating on the course while giving the second-place award to the short course at Augusta National. Par 3 has been listed among Golf Range Magazine’s Top 25 Short Courses in America. Visit Palm Beach Par 3 Golf Course for more details.
