In 2026, Florida Historic Golf Trail joins Florida and the rest of the nation in celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence!

While often overlooked in the traditional narrative of the 13 Colonies, Florida was a key transit route and locations throughout the state served as important milestones in the War for Independence. Sometimes referred to as the “14th colony” because of its strategic location along the Gulf, many countries including the United States, France, Great Britain and Spain were interested in taking possession of this desirable land and location.

Florida's celebration, America250FL, is focusing on the state's role and place in the American Revolution. To commemorate the state's status as the "14th Colony" during the Revolution, the XXXX Sports Foundation, in partnership with the Florida Historic Golf Trail, is providing "14th Colony" pin flags to any golf course throughout the state who would like to be a partner in the America250FL initiative.
